Specified Against the Roast
As coffee tin manufacturers, a coffee build is specified against the roast date before it is specified against the artwork — the valve, the barrier and the closure all follow from that one answer. Four things get settled before one goes back on the line.
Coffee is oily, and oil lifts a plain lining over time. The internal lacquer on these coffee tin moulds is rated for fat contact, so a coffee bean storage tin can hold a dark roast for months without the metal coming through in the taste.

Specialty coffee competes on origin and craft, so the artwork has to look considered rather than loud.
A coffee tin canister usually carries origin, roast, altitude and tasting notes — a lot of copy for a small face. We set a type hierarchy at final size and confirm it is legible on the formed tin rather than on a flat proof.
A degassing valve or a one-way liner changes where the artwork can sit, and on a coffee packaging tin those choices are made with the print rather than after it. The valve is fitted on the same line the print run uses.
